In 2018, Bay of Plenty Regional Council (BOPRC) and Bay of Connections (BOC) commissioned an independent review of the BOC regional growth development framework, including its purpose/objectives, focus areas and stakeholder engagement. The review involved interviews, discussions and workshops with more than 200 BOC stakeholders, industry representatives, local government officials and Mayors across the wider Bay of Plenty region, as well as with key central government officials from Wellington and Auckland. The key outcome from the review was that there remains a high level of value in a regional lens around regional development. However, it was also determined that after 10 years in existence, it was time for a refresh of the regional development framework, and an even stronger focus on helping support local priorities. A small working group is currently engaging with key stakeholders on the refreshed regional development framework. Collaboration and partnership will continue to be a priority, along with a focus on general key areas. Including Maori development. The reset approach will connect the region, particularly in an effort to help address the big picture challenges – and leverage the opportunities. Ultimately, we will al still be striving to deliver real benefit to the region, its communities, and people. We expect to be finalising the reset regional approach in early April, and will provide a further update to stakeholders as soon as possible.
